A devastating accident in South Carolina claimed the life of a 4-year-old girl on the afternoon of March 31, and investigators are still trying to determine its cause. The multi-vehicle accident occurred at an intersection along Highway 501 in Horry County.
According to police, a tractor-trailer rear-ended an SUV which then crashed into the back of a minivan. The 4-year-old girl was a passenger in the SUV, and authorities say she was in a child restraint seat at the time of the accident. The county coroner concluded that the child died of head injury caused by massive trauma.
At least four additional people were injured in the brooklyn car accident, police reported, including a young boy who was also a passenger in the SUV. The boy was listed in stable condition the same day. The identities of the other people injured in the accident have not been released.
It does not appear that the driver of the tractor-trailer has been charged at this time. Undoubtedly, an investigation will continue to determine the cause of this tragic accident.
Because of the sheer size and weight of tractor trailers, trucking accidents are often fatal. When a fatal trucking accident is a result of negligence on behalf of the truck driver, it is often possible for the victim’s family to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck driver and the trucking company.
Although no amount of damages will ever take away the pain of losing a loved one, a damage award can help provide the family with financial security through this extremely difficult time.
